Firozpur: A 56-year-old inspector posted with the Counter Intelligence wing has been arrested in Firozpur on allegations of drug trafficking. Police said 3.35 kg of heroin, six pistols, four magazines and 17 cartridges were recovered from him at the time of his arrest.
The accused was identified as Baldev Singh. Police also seized his i20 car and six mobile phones.
A case has been registered against Baldev Singh under the NDPS Act and the Arms Act. Police are investigating the source and intended destination of the recovered drugs and weapons, besides trying to establish how long he had allegedly been involved in the illegal trade.
Firozpur SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said investigators were also examining whether the recovered drug consignment had been brought recently or was already in the accused’s possession. The source of the weapons is also being investigated.
The SSP said there was suspicion of a possible Pakistan connection and that the accused was being questioned.
The six mobile phones have been sent for technical examination. Police said the analysis is expected to establish which numbers were contacted through the phones and provide other information relevant to the investigation
