Tarn Taran: A man was shot dead after marrying his maternal uncle’s daughter, while his father remains in critical condition after the two were allegedly attacked by members of the woman’s family in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district.
The incident took place in Panjwar village under the jurisdiction of Jhabal police station. The deceased was identified as Amritpal Singh, who had married the woman around one-and-a-half months ago.
According to preliminary information, the marriage had reportedly led to a dispute between the two families. On Sunday, some members of the woman’s family allegedly arrived at Amritpal’s house. An argument reportedly broke out between the two sides, following which the woman’s relatives allegedly opened fire at Amritpal and his father, Kashmir Singh.
Both men sustained serious gunshot injuries and were initially taken to a hospital for treatment. Given their condition, they were later referred to a private hospital in Amritsar. Amritpal succumbed to his injuries during treatment, while his father remains hospitalised in critical condition.
Police reached the spot after receiving information about the shooting and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. The deceased’s body has been taken into custody for further legal proceedings.
No arrests have been made so far.
DSP Sukhbir Singh said the police were aware of the incident and an investigation was underway. He said action would be taken against those found responsible.
