Chandigarh News: The Punjab Police has registered an FIR against Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira following a complaint filed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) woman leader Gayatri Bishnoi. The case is reportedly linked to alleged objectionable posts and comments made on the social media platform ‘X’.
According to the information available, Khaira had raised questions on social media regarding a government accommodation located in Chandigarh’s Sector 39. During the exchange, he also made several comments concerning AAP leader Gayatri Bishnoi. Bishnoi reportedly objected to the remarks, alleging that they were an attack on her character and reputation, and warned of legal action.
The police have registered the case under Sections 75(1)(iv), 75(3), 79, 351 and 61 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 67 of the Information Technology Act. According to the police, the complaint relates to allegedly objectionable and unsubstantiated remarks made on social media concerning the woman leader.
Meanwhile, Sukhpal Singh Khaira has questioned the police action and termed it a politically motivated act of retaliation. He has alleged that the FIR is an attempt to silence his voice. Khaira has also questioned why details such as the FIR number and the concerned police station were allegedly not provided to him clearly.
The police are now expected to examine the social media posts, videos and other digital material connected with the case.
The allegations mentioned in the FIR are subject to investigation, and their validity is yet to be established before a court.
