Phagwara: Punjab Police have arrested two more people in connection with the violence at Lovely Professional University (LPU), taking the total number of arrests in the case to 11.
The accused have been identified as Yogesh Apoorva, a resident of Mehrata in Rajasthan, and Aditya, a resident of Hajipur in Uttar Pradesh. Police said the two were arrested in connection with alleged vandalism of vehicles during the incident.
The accused are expected to be produced before a court, where police will seek their remand for further investigation. Police may provide additional details about the arrests during a press briefing.
Earlier, police had arrested nine people and named 20 individuals in connection with the case.
During a previous press conference, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Navin Singla said two people had been arrested from Phagwara for their alleged involvement in the disturbance at LPU. Arrests had also been made from Jammu and Mumbai, he said.
Police had also identified and arrested a person accused of climbing onto the MiG-23UM fighter aircraft displayed outside the university campus during the violence. The accused was arrested from Mandi.
Further investigation into the incident and the role of other suspects is underway.
