Chandigarh: Air pollution levels continued to rise across Punjab on Friday, with more than 350 stubble-burning incidents reported statewide. Mandi Gobindgarh emerged as the most polluted city in the state, as a thick blanket of smog enveloped several areas just two days ahead of Diwali.
According to readings from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the steel city of Mandi Gobindgarh reached 319 at 7 pm, placing it in the ‘very poor’ category.
Much like the national capital Delhi, where air quality continues to deteriorate, several cities in Punjab also witnessed a sharp rise in pollution levels.
Ludhiana recorded a PM2.5 level of 204, while Patiala registered an AQI of 195. Amritsar and Jalandhar recorded AQI levels of 138 and 146, respectively.
