Washington: US President Donald Trump has blamed what he described as uncontrolled mass migration and Islam for the large student protests in France, without providing evidence to support the claim.
In a post on his Truth Social platform on Tuesday, Trump said the unrest in France was not primarily about schools but was linked to what he described as an effort by Islam to “take over” the country.
Trump’s comments came as thousands of students took part in protests in Paris, with clashes between demonstrators and police reported during the demonstrations.
The US president had also made remarks about Iran during a rally in Nebraska on Monday. Addressing supporters in Grand Island, he said Iran could potentially “wipe out” a major US city such as Los Angeles or San Diego.
Trump was discussing the economic costs associated with wartime disruption and said higher prices were a relatively small cost for maintaining security in the US and around the world.
He appeared to be referring to increased prices for fuel, fertiliser and other goods linked to disruptions in energy markets.
Trump told the crowd that the situation would end soon and suggested that the conflict was already nearing its conclusion. His remarks came amid heightened tensions surrounding Iran and the wider regional conflict.
