Mamata Banerjee, five TMC leaders detained in Delhi amid CJP protest; two police personnel injured

New Delhi: Political tensions escalated in the national capital on Saturday after Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief and former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee was allegedly detained by Delhi Police and CRPF personnel outside her residence amid the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) protest.

TMC leader Saket Gokhale announced the development in a post on X, claiming that Banerjee and five party colleagues had been taken away in a police van. The party also criticised the police action on social media.

Meanwhile, clashes broke out near Akashvani Bhawan in central Delhi after a group of protesters allegedly threw stones at security personnel, injuring two police officers.

According to reports, hundreds of protesters attempted to breach police barricades on Imtiaz Ali Marg to proceed towards Jantar Mantar. Security personnel stopped them from moving further, following which stone-pelting reportedly began.

Police detained several protesters following the incident and deployed additional personnel in the area. Security arrangements were tightened to prevent further disruption in the high-security zone.

The situation remained under close police watch as authorities continued security operations around the protest area. The circumstances surrounding Banerjee’s reported detention and the clashes were not independently verified.
