Chandigarh: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday arrested suspended Punjab Police deputy inspector general (DIG) Harcharan Singh Bhullar in a money laundering case linked to an alleged bribery racket.
The ED registered the case on November 6, 2025, after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Bhullar on October 16, 2025, on bribery charges.
The case originated from a complaint filed by Aakash Batta, who alleged that Bhullar, while serving as DIG of the Ropar range, demanded a bribe through an intermediary, Krishanu Sharda. The alleged demand was linked to providing relief in a case registered at the Sirhind police station and avoiding strict action against the complainant’s business.
According to the allegations, the CBI laid a trap and arrested Sharda on October 16, 2025, while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹5 lakh. Bhullar was arrested the same day.
During proceedings at the CBI court in Chandigarh, the ED’s special public prosecutor sought 14 days of custody for Bhullar. The agency argued that custodial interrogation was necessary to trace the alleged money trail and identify others who may have been involved in the case.
The allegations are under investigation, and the accused has not been convicted.
