New Delhi: Mobile internet services within a 4-km radius of Jantar Mantar will be suspended from 10pm on October 9 to 10pm on October 10 ahead of a proposed protest by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), Delhi Police sources said.
According to the sources, the Union home ministry has approved the restriction. The suspension will apply to mobile internet services in the designated area, while connectivity across the rest of Delhi will continue as usual.
As part of preparations for the proposed protest on October 10, Delhi Police has divided the New Delhi district into 20 zones, sources said.
Police deny permission for CJP protest
Delhi Police has denied the CJP permission to hold a demonstration at Jantar Mantar on October 10 against the Chief Election Commissioner.
Joint Commissioner of Police Nupur Prasad said CJP co-convenor Saurav Das submitted the application on October 7, whereas applications for events at Jantar Mantar must be filed at least 10 days in advance.
Police also cited alleged violations of rules during the party’s previous demonstrations. Officials said permission was denied after considering security, traffic management and law-and-order concerns.
The proposed protest has prompted additional security preparations in the national capital.
