Ludhiana: High drama unfolded at the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation House meeting at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan on Saturday, as members of the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) brought two sacks filled with counterfeit currency bearing a purported value of ₹82 crore into the House to protest.
The unusual demonstration took place even before the meeting formally began, drawing attention to the members’ grievances and adding to the tension surrounding the proceedings.
Amid the commotion, members and officials were informed about the death of a councillor. They stood for two minutes of silence to pay tribute to the deceased.
In view of the bereavement, the House decided not to continue with the meeting and adjourned the proceedings with immediate effect.
According to municipal corporation officials, the meeting has been rescheduled for Monday, October 12, at 3 pm at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan.
The session is expected to address several key civic issues, including pending funds and development works across the city. The protest involving the counterfeit notes is also likely to remain a major point of contention when the House reconvenes.
