Akal Takht summons 13 AAP MLAs, two leaders over Bangla Sahib controversy

Amritsar: Sri Akal Takht Sahib has summoned 13 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs and two other party leaders to appear in person on October 15 to explain their conduct during a visit to submit a memorandum over the Bangla Sahib Gurudwara incident in Delhi.

The leaders have been asked to appear at the Akal Takht secretariat at noon, following directions from the Jathedar, amid a fresh controversy surrounding the delegation’s visit.

The MLAs summoned include Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, Jeevan Jyot Kaur, Dalbir Singh Tong, Gurdeep Singh, Baljinder Kaur, Sarwan Singh, Manjinder Singh, Joban Singh, Harmeet Singh, Karmbir Singh, Jasbir Singh and Kulwant Singh.

AAP leaders Sonia Mann and Gur Iqbal Singh have also been summoned. They had visited Sri Akal Takht Sahib to submit a memorandum concerning the reported entry of police personnel into Delhi’s Bangla Sahib Gurudwara during action against protesters.

The matter took another turn after AAP MLA Manwinder Singh Giaspura alleged that he was prevented from entering the Akal Takht secretariat because he belongs to a reserved caste.

The secretariat, however, denied that anyone had been restricted on the basis of caste, maintaining that no such discrimination had taken place.

The summoned leaders are expected to present their explanations before the Akal Takht on October 15.
