Punjab government making sincere efforts for release of Sikh prisoners, says CM Mann

Chandigarh: Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday said his government was making sustained efforts to secure the early release of Sikh prisoners, commonly referred to as Bandi Singhs.

Mann made the statement after holding a meeting with representatives of the Qaumi Insaaf Morcha to discuss their demands concerning the release of the prisoners.

In a post on X, the chief minister said the government was working to find a meaningful solution to the issue and assured the delegation that the matter was being treated seriously.

He also expressed hope that the ongoing efforts would yield positive results soon.

The Qaumi Insaaf Morcha has been campaigning for the release of Sikh prisoners for an extended period and has raised the issue at various levels. During Monday’s meeting, its representatives presented their demands to the state government, which were discussed, according to the chief minister’s statement.

However, the government did not share details of the specific demands discussed or outline any concrete steps or timeline for further action.

The meeting comes amid continued calls from the morcha for progress on the long-standing issue.
