New Delhi: A petition filed in the Supreme Court by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and several other opposition leaders over alleged voter irregularities has reportedly been flagged with 14 procedural objections, delaying the process of listing the matter for hearing.
The objections reportedly include a shortfall of ₹220 in court fees, missing vakalatnamas (authorisations for lawyers to represent petitioners), absent signatures on some documents and deficiencies in supporting papers. The non-submission of a copy of an earlier judgment has also been cited among the issues.
The procedural shortcomings have affected the listing process, and the matter will not be heard on October 13, according to the report.
Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and other opposition leaders had approached the top court over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and alleged irregularities in the process.
Their petition seeks scrutiny of decisions taken by the Election Commission and the procedure for deleting names from voter lists, among other reliefs. The allegations and requests remain subject to consideration by the court.
