Riyadh: King Khalid International Airport in Saudi Arabia’s capital will reportedly remain closed until October 17, according to an aviation notice issued on Monday.
The notice states that the closure will remain in effect until 9pm GMT on October 17, equivalent to 2.30am Indian Standard Time on October 18.
The reported shutdown follows a series of attacks attributed to Iran-backed Houthi rebels. However, the aviation notice does not provide a detailed explanation for the closure or explicitly establish a connection between the attacks and the airport’s operational restrictions.
King Khalid International Airport is one of Saudi Arabia’s major aviation hubs, handling domestic and international flights. Any prolonged suspension of operations could disrupt flight schedules and affect passengers travelling through Riyadh.
Travellers have been advised to confirm their flight status directly with their airlines before heading to the airport.
