Jhotta’s family refuses postmortem until demands are met

Mansa: The family of slain anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhotta has refused to consent to his postmortem until all its demands are met, his wife, Manpreet Kaur, said on Thursday evening following a meeting with the action committee.

Earlier in the day, Jhotta’s father, Bhim Singh, said the Sikh community had advised the family to secure acceptance of its demands before agreeing to the postmortem.

Protests seeking justice for Jhotta entered their 10th day on Thursday, with demonstrations continuing near the deputy commissioner’s residence at Tinkoni and at the civil hospital, where his body remains in the mortuary.

Bhim Singh said the family did not want Jhotta’s body to remain in the hospital mortuary but insisted that their demands must be addressed first. He added that any decision would be communicated to protesters through the action committee and taken with the approval of the wider sangat (Sikh congregation).

“Once a decision is made, either I or Manpreet Kaur will address the protesters,” he said.

Bhim Singh reiterated that the family would cooperate with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing Jhotta’s murder.
