AAP minister Aman Arora challenges Congress over alleged plan to end subsidies in Punjab

Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab president Aman Arora on Thursday challenged the Congress leadership to clarify whether subsidies would continue in the state if the party came to power in the 2027 assembly elections.

Arora claimed that Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring had said in a recent television interview that subsidies should not be provided to everyone. Arora interpreted the remarks as indicating that a Congress government would discontinue subsidies.

He said the AAP government was providing subsidies worth ₹22,000 crore in Punjab and asked Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge to clarify the party’s position on continuing these benefits.

Arora also questioned the Congress’s criticism of subsidies, claiming that no Congress leader in Punjab had refused the benefit of free electricity and that women in their families had not declined the proposed monthly assistance of ₹1,000.

The Congress leadership’s response to Arora’s allegations was not included in the statement.
