Chandigarh: Congress MLAs staged a protest outside the Punjab assembly on the second day of the session on Friday, raising slogans against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and carrying a ‘charge sheet’ listing its alleged failures.
Punjab Congress president Pargat Singh and leader of opposition Partap Singh Bajwa accused the state government of failing to act in sacrilege cases, allowing the drug mafia to operate and increasing Punjab’s debt burden.
The Congress leaders also alleged that the AAP government had provided protection to gangsters and failed to curb illegal mining. They accused it of neglecting farmers’ issues and failing to safeguard the state’s dams.
Pargat Singh said the party had come to submit the charge sheet to the government and accused it of avoiding discussion on key public issues. He warned that Congress would not allow the assembly session to proceed until these matters were debated.
Singh also alleged that the government had ended the previous day’s assembly proceedings within just nine minutes.
