Sangrur: An action committee has announced a protest outside Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s residence in Sangrur on November 5, demanding justice for Parvinder Singh Jhotta, action against drug abuse, the release of arrested leaders and fulfilment of the protesters’ demands.
The decision was taken at a four-hour meeting convened by the action committee, attended by representatives of more than 100 farmers’, workers’, students’ and other organisations.
During the meeting, participants expressed concern over the growing drug problem in Punjab and questioned the state government’s response. They alleged that while drug abuse was destroying families, the government was taking action against people demanding justice instead of addressing their concerns.
The representatives called for a united struggle to secure justice for Jhotta’s family and protect Punjab’s youth from drugs.
They also condemned what they described as police excesses and the arrests of protest leaders, demanding their immediate release and acceptance of all the demands raised by the ongoing protest.
The meeting discussed preparations for the November 5 demonstration. The participating organisations called for mobilisation across Punjab to ensure wider participation from different sections of society.
