Mansa: A Punjab Police assistant sub-inspector was allegedly caught consuming heroin, commonly known as ‘chitta’, in a public area in Budhlada, Mansa district, on Thursday, prompting protests by local residents.
According to reports, residents surrounded ASI Sahajpreet, 50, in a busy market at around 11 am. They claimed that a packet containing the drug was recovered from his pocket. The officer reportedly denied consuming drugs, saying he had come to the area for training.
Residents subsequently staged a protest, demanding strict action against the police officer. They questioned how Punjab could tackle drug abuse if police personnel themselves were allegedly involved in drug consumption.
Following the incident, local police conducted a drug test on the ASI. The test reportedly returned a positive result, after which a case was registered against him at Budhlada police station.
The allegations and the circumstances of the incident remain subject to further investigation.
