HC orders judicial probe into Shubhkaran Singh’s death
Chandigarh: Nearly a fortnight after the death of 21-year-old farmer Shubhkaran Singh at the Punjab-Haryana border, the Punjab and Haryana High Court today ordered a judicial inquiry into his death.
The high court also made it clear that the investigation cannot be handed over to Punjab or Haryana for obvious reasons.
A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhwalia and Justice Lapita Banerjee constituted a three-member committee comprising retired high court judges and two ADGP-rank officers from Haryana and Punjab. The names are to be submitted by the states by 4 pm today.
