Punjab police seeks three more months to complete probe into Lawrence interview case

Chandigarh: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to investigate the interview of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi from jail has revealed that the Signal app was used for the interviews.

According to the SIT, this device will be seized soon. The High Court handed over the investigation of the case to the SIT headed by Special DGP (Human Rights) Prabodh Kumar.

The SIT informed the High Court on Wednesday that in the investigation so far, it has been revealed that this interview was conducted through the Signal app. Investigations are underway, and some crucial witnesses are yet to be examined.

In such a situation, a three-month extension has been sought from the High Court. During the hearing, the High Court asked ADGP Jail Arun Pal Singh how many mobiles have been seized from the jail in the last month. Along with this, most of the staff in the jail are on contract, and the duration for their replacement by regular recruitment was questioned.

Regarding live wire fencing, the Punjab government informed the court that this work has been completed in six jails and is ongoing in the remaining ten jails. Additionally, tenders have been issued for the arrangement of landlines, and this work will also be completed soon. The High Court has ordered the Punjab government to file a status report in this regard on the next date of the hearing.
