Mukhtar Ansari in jail under previous Cong regime: CM Mann refuses to accept bills worth Rs 55 lakh

Punjab E News: Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has refused to pay legal expenses worth lakhs of rupees related to Uttar Pradesh gangster Mukhtar Ansari. According to the information received, the Chief Minister’s Office has returned the file of payment of about Rs 55 lakh in this regard.

The bill was of a senior supreme court lawyer who had fought a case in the supreme court over the continuation of Mukhtar Ansari’s presence in Punjab’s Ropar jail during the Captain government.
Each appearance of this lawyer cost the Punjab government around Rs 11 lakh.
Ansari was lodged in Punjab’s Ropar jail for nearly two-and-a-half years (2019-2021). The Punjab Police had brought him from Uttar Pradesh on transit remand. The Mohali police had registered a case against Mukhtar Ansari on the complaint of a builder. In Uttar Pradesh, There are about 47 cases registered against Mukhtar Ansari, for which a special court has been set up to dispose of them.
Finally, the Uttar Pradesh government knocked on the doors of the Supreme Court, against which the Punjab government fought the case by taking the services of a senior advocate. The fee bill for the same case was Rs 55 lakh. The Chief Minister’s Office seems to understand why the burden of Rs 55 lakh should be put on the treasury, due to which the file of the payment has been returned by the Chief Minister’s Office.
It may be recalled that the Punjab government had some time back ordered ADGP R N Dhoke to conduct an inquiry into giving VIP treatment to Mukhtar Ansari in Ropar jail, who had completed the probe and sent the report to the Chief Minister.
According to sources, in this investigation report, the jail authority has been put in the dock by giving a clean chit to the politicians.
