No clean chit to any cop: Sacked inspector Inderjit Singh used to procure drugs from Pakistan: Probe report

Chandigarh: Three special investigation reports on drugs have been made public today. The reports, which were lying in a sealed cover with the Punjab and Haryana High Court for nearly five years, were submitted to the Punjab government on April 5. No police officer has been given a clean chit in these reports.

Instead, the report calls for further investigation into the role of several police officers, most notably inspector Inderjit Singh, who was slapped with ORP and has now been sacked.
The sacked officer is alleged to have been involved in the business of implicating innocents in false cases of drug trafficking. He has been accused of procuring drugs through smuggling from Pakistan and implicating innocents in drug cases or forcing them to sell drugs in order to extort money. He used to collude with the staff of the Forensic Science Laboratory to ensure the release of the smugglers in one way or the other.
The report also points to the complicity of AIG (formerly SSP) Rajjit Singh Hundal. He is accused of recommending the promotion and posting of Inspector Inderjit. The report has also raised questions about property deals by SSP Rajjit and his family members and asked for further investigation into this fact as many properties were built from money gifted by some relatives.
The three reports have been made public by Lawyers for Human Rights International, which obtained copies from the high court. Navkiran Singh, general secretary and lawyer of the organisation, said the onus of acting on the reports was now on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
“We have been fighting since 2013 to end the menace of drugs in Punjab and had filed a PIL in the High Court for this purpose.”
On December 15, 2017, the court had constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged association of Moga SSP Rajjit Singh Hundal with Inderjit Singh. This was revealed in FIR no. 1 registered at the police station on June 12, 2017.
Inderjit was arrested by a special task force headed by ADGP (now DGP) Harpreet Singh Sidhu.
