London: The British Sikh councillor living in Coventry has created history by becoming the first turbaned Lord Mayor for the city of central England. Jaswant Singh Birdi, who was born in Punjab and spent his childhood in Kolkata, West Bengal, settled in Coventry 60 years ago and has served as a councillor in the city for 16 years.
He recently took over the formal charge of his new post of Lord Mayor along with his wife Krishna.
