Pakistan’s Supreme Court upholds death sentence of late military ruler Pervez Musharraf in treason case

Pakistan’s Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence awarded to former military ruler General Pervez Musharraf by a special court in a treason case in 2019. Musharraf, the military ruler of Pakistan and responsible for the Kargil war in 1999, died in Dubai on February 5 last year after a prolonged illness. The 79-year-old former president was undergoing treatment in Dubai.
He had been living in self-exile in the United Arab Emirates since 2016 to avoid criminal charges. A four-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa pronounced the verdict. 1
