‘X’ disagrees with government order to block accounts and posts linked to farmers’ protest
New Delhi: Social media platform X on Thursday disagreed with the Indian government’s order to block accounts and posts related to the farmers’ protests and called for freedom of expression.
Sources said that on the request of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has ordered the temporary blocking of 177 social media accounts and web links related to the farmers’ protest.
“The Government of India has issued necessary executive orders. Following the order, we will block these accounts and posts only in India. However, we disagree with these actions and believe that these posts should fall within the ambit of freedom of expression.”
