Amritsar: Civil Lines police in Amritsar have registered a case of alleged cheating against Vansh Bassi, son of former Improvement Trust chairman Dinesh Bassi, and his associate Amit Bajaj.
The two have been accused of allegedly cheating Kanwardeep Singh, a resident of Canal Colony near the district courts, of ₹50 lakh in connection with a land deal. Police said raids were being conducted at different locations to arrest the accused.
Station House Officer Mohit Kumar said the case was registered on the basis of Kanwardeep Singh’s complaint. Bajaj is a resident of Holy City, while Vansh Bassi lives on Shaheed Bhagat Singh Road inside Ghee Mandi in the old city.
According to the complaint, an agreement to sell a property was executed on June 26, 2023, for which the complainant paid ₹50 lakh to the accused. He alleged that the agreement was never cancelled and was repeatedly extended orally with mutual consent.
The complainant alleged that despite this, Bajaj transferred the document in favour of Vansh Bassi on October 10, 2025, without his permission. He further alleged that the two took the agreement in their names but did not return the ₹50 lakh he had already paid.
Complainant learned of alleged change in November 2025
According to Kanwardeep Singh, he learned in November 2025 that the two accused had allegedly acted in connivance and transferred the agreement in favour of a third party.
He subsequently approached the police with a complaint.
Police have registered a cheating case against both accused and started an investigation. The SHO said the police would examine the land agreement, payment records and other documents related to the property as part of the investigation.
