Jakarta: A 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Indonesia early Saturday, causing several buildings and houses to collapse and killing at least 20 people, according to officials.
Six people were injured in the earthquake, while two others remain missing after being trapped under debris.
Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency said it was monitoring sea levels following the earthquake but found no significant changes indicating a threat to coastal areas.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake struck at around 5.58 am local time in the Flores region at a depth of approximately 10 km. Its epicentre was located around 68 km northwest of Ende city in East Nusa Tenggara province.
Several aftershocks were reported following the main earthquake, while rescue and search operations continued in the affected areas.
