Chandigarh: Punjab minister Hardeep Singh Mundian on Thursday hit back at former Union minister Ravneet Singh Bittu over his claim that Mundian had fled abroad following the Enforcement Directorate (ED) action.
Mundian said he was holding a press conference at the party office in Sector 39, Chandigarh, and not in the US.
Responding to Bittu, Mundian said Bittu had allegedly opened a travel agency near his house on Chandigarh Road after losing his ticket and had “booked tickets” for him and his nephew to the US. He also said Bittu had referred to Prince as his nephew’s son, while Prince is his nephew.
The remarks came after the ED searched the Sahnewal residence of Mundian’s nephew, Gurpreet Singh alias Prince, as part of its money laundering investigation linked to GMADA.
Speaking about the ED action, Mundian alleged that family members at Prince’s house were harassed during the search. He said Prince’s mother, wife, sister-in-law and three-year-old daughter were present at the residence. According to him, the search continued from around 11pm until 3am.
Mundian alleged that family members were questioned about how long they had been associated with him and how much money they received. He said officials also asked about Prince’s salary and how the family managed its expenses on that income.
Mundian alleges pregnant woman was made to stand for hours
Mundian claimed that officials told Prince’s mother to ask her son to either stop accompanying the minister or ask the minister to leave the party.
He further alleged that Prince’s wife, who is pregnant, was made to stand for around four-and-a-half hours.
Mundian also alleged that a mother was not allowed to feed her child and that a widowed member of the family was also harassed during the ED operation.
