Amit Shah asks Punjab government to hand over two more drug cases to CBI

Ludhiana: Union home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab over the drug problem, urging it to hand over two more drug-related cases to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Addressing a press conference in Ludhiana, Shah questioned why the state government had not registered a single case under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act. He said securing bail under the law was extremely difficult and urged the government to use its provisions to take stricter action against drug trafficking.

Shah alleged that the drug trade in Punjab could not operate without political patronage, claiming that an extensive network of drug trafficking had spread across the state. He called for stronger action against those involved.

The Union minister also expressed concern over Punjab Police personnel being arrested in drug-related cases. He said the involvement of police personnel raised questions about the state government’s accountability and its efforts to curb the drug trade.

His remarks came amid growing political tensions over drug trafficking in Punjab and demands for stronger investigations into cases involving alleged links between drug networks, officials and political figures.
