Chandigarh: Commuters in Punjab may face disruption from Wednesday, October 21, as contractual employees of Punjab Roadways, Punbus and the Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) have announced an indefinite strike over their pending demands.
The workers’ union has warned of a statewide shutdown of bus services, which could affect daily commuters, students and working professionals who rely on government buses.
Leaders of the Punjab Roadways, Punbus and PRTC Contract Workers’ Union said they had been raising their demands with the state government and departmental officials for a long time, but no concrete solution had emerged.
The employees also held protests at various depots on October 15, raising slogans against the government. They alleged that despite repeated assurances and scheduled meetings, their demands had not been resolved.
The proposed strike is expected to affect public transport across the state if the union proceeds with its plan. Commuters have been advised to check service updates before travelling.
