Jalandhar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Jalandhar on Wednesday and proceeded to a rally after paying obeisance at the historic Shri Devi Talab Temple.
Security arrangements were strengthened at the temple and surrounding areas by central agencies and Punjab Police following a reported threat earlier in the morning to blow up the temple and other parts of the city.
Earlier, several private schools in Jalandhar reportedly received a threatening email at around 7.07am warning of IED blasts at different locations in the city. The email specified alleged timings of 11.11am at schools, 12.11pm at Shri Devi Talab Temple, 2.11pm at the court complex and 3.11pm at an office.
The email claimed responsibility on behalf of the “Khalistan Army” and also alleged that bombs had been planted at the stage of Amit Shah’s rally and in buses carrying people to the rally venue.
Shah, meanwhile, claimed that the BJP would make Punjab “chitta-free” by the end of 2029.
