Chandigarh: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to visit Punjab on October 20, amid the Centre seeking reports from the state’s chief secretary on three drug-related cases. Reports suggest Shah may visit Mansa to meet the family of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhotta, who was killed earlier this month.
Former MP Ravneet Singh Bittu shared the information about Shah’s proposed visit and appealed to Punjabis to support efforts to make the state drug-free. He said Punjab needed strong leadership and decisive action to tackle the drug problem.
However, sources said the Punjab BJP unit had not yet received formal communication about the home minister’s visit. Preparations are reportedly under way in Mansa for a possible meeting with Jhotta’s family.
A BJP leader and a senior government official reportedly said Shah was expected to reach Mansa despite October 20 coinciding with the Dussehra festival.
The proposed visit comes amid heightened political debate over drug trafficking in Punjab ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. The Union home ministry has sought reports from Punjab Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha on three drug-related cases, although further details of the requests were not provided in the report.
