Amritsar police book property owner for housing foreigners without registration; 3 Thai nationals deported

Amritsar: The Amritsar commissionerate police, in coordination with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), have registered a case against a property owner for allegedly accommodating foreign nationals without mandatory registration.

Three Thai nationals who were staying in India despite their visas having expired have also been deported to Thailand.

A joint police-FRRO team inspected a residential building in Pratap Nagar, along GT Road, and found five foreign nationals staying there. During verification of their travel documents, officials found that the visas of three Thai nationals had expired.

After completing the required legal formalities, the three were deported to Thailand.

The inspection also revealed that the building was not registered on the Form-3 portal, which is mandatory for recording information about foreign guests. The authorities had also not been informed about the foreigners’ stay.

Following the findings, police registered a case against the person providing accommodation at B-Division police station under Section 23 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.

The commissionerate police and FRRO have directed hotel operators, guest houses, paying guest facilities, homestays and private property owners to ensure mandatory registration and submit foreign guests’ details through the Form-3 portal.

Police warned that violations could pose challenges to national security and immigration management, adding that strict legal action would be taken against those found violating the rules.
