New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has dismissed speculation surrounding Rohit Sharma’s international future, stating that the senior batter has no plans to retire after Sunday’s third ODI against England at Lord’s.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said there had been no discussion within the board regarding Rohit’s retirement and described reports suggesting the match would be his last international appearance as baseless.
He said Rohit remains available for national selection and will continue representing India in international cricket.
The clarification came after media reports claimed that the third ODI against England on July 19 could be Rohit’s final international match. The reports also alleged that the BCCI had informed the former captain that he was not part of the team’s plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
The BCCI has rejected those claims, reiterating that no such decision or communication has taken place. The board maintained that speculation regarding Rohit’s retirement is unfounded and that he continues to be part of India’s ODI set-up.
