New Delhi: BJP national president Nitin Nabin has summoned three Delhi MPs who visited the residence of former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar after his death and expressed condolences.
The three MPs — Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Yogender Chandolia and Kamaljeet Sehrawat — were reportedly reprimanded by Nabin, who told them that they should not have visited Kumar’s residence.
According to BJP sources, the three MPs were also asked to explain their conduct.
Sajjan Kumar, who died last week, was serving life imprisonment in Tihar Jail in connection with two separate cases involving the killings of Sikhs during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots that followed the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The three MPs represent constituencies carved out of the Outer Delhi parliamentary seat, which Sajjan Kumar had represented in the Lok Sabha as a Congress leader.
HS Phoolka had criticised MPs’ visit
The BJP chief’s action came a day after senior party leader HS Phoolka publicly criticised the MPs for visiting Kumar’s residence in Peeragarhi.
Phoolka, who joined the BJP in April this year, condemned the visit and said sympathy should be reserved for the victims of the 1984 violence and their families.
He also called for a boycott of the three MPs, arguing that their visit was particularly objectionable given the BJP’s stated support for justice for the victims of the anti-Sikh riots.
Phoolka has for years represented families of riot victims in their legal battle for justice.
