Referring to the Chief Minister Mawan-Dhiaan Satkar Scheme, Kohli said that more than 60,000 women in Jalandhar Central have benefited from the scheme so far
Jalandhar News (Pawan Dhupar): A special Raksha Bandhan programme in Jalandhar Central witnessed the participation of thousands of women, including women volunteers, Sakhis, Anganwadi workers, grassroots workers and other women from the constituency. The women came together to celebrate the festival and performed the traditional Rakhi ritual with Nitin Kohli, AAP Jalandhar Central Halka In-charge, tying Rakhi on his wrist and extending their blessings, affection and good wishes.
Nitin Kohli, AAP Jalandhar Central Halka In-charge, along with his wife, Nidhi Kohli interacted with the women and participated in the Rakhi celebrations. The gathering brought together women associated with grassroots outreach as well as women from different sections of Jalandhar Central.
Those present at the programme included AAP councillors and ward in-charges Lagandeep Singh, Tirlok Sraan, Parveen Pehlwan, Amardeep Sandal Keenu, Vicky Tulsi, Balbir Singh Dhillon (Bittu), Karamjit Kaur, Shivam Sharma, Rajesh Babbar, Manmohan Raju, Pinderjit Kaur, Love Robin, Harpal Mintu, Kartik Sahota, Deepak Kumar, Rajiv Gill, Naresh Sharma, Ajay Chopra, Jagdish Raja, Parveen Wason, Nikhil Arora, Gurpreet Kaur and Jatin Gulati.
Other dignitaries present on the occasion included Mohinder Singh Bhagat, Balbir Singh Bittu, Goldy Marwaha, Sanjeev Tarhan and Manish.
The traditional Rakhi ritual became an emotional moment as thousands of sisters personally tied Rakhi on Nitin Kohli’s wrist and blessed him. Kohli said the gesture was much more than a festival ritual and represented the trust, affection and responsibility associated with the brother-sister relationship.
“Today, thousands of sisters have tied Rakhi on my wrist and blessed me. For me, this is much more than an honour. It is a reflection of the trust with which they have accepted me as their brother. I consider this trust a responsibility that I must live up to,” Kohli said.
He said that public life is ultimately built on the relationship of trust between people and their representatives.
“Positions and responsibilities may change with time, but the trust of people is something that must always be respected. The affection and confidence shown by my sisters today have made me even more determined to stand with them, listen to their concerns and work for their welfare,” he said.
*More than 60,000 women benefited under Chief Minister ‘Mawan-Dhiaan Satkar Scheme’*
Referring to the Chief Minister Mawan-Dhiaan Satkar Scheme, Kohli said that more than 60,000 women in Jalandhar Central have benefited from the scheme so far.
“For us, 60,000 is not merely a number. Behind this figure are thousands of women, mothers, daughters and families with their own needs, challenges and aspirations. When a woman receives support through a government scheme, its positive impact reaches the entire family,” he said.
Kohli said the success of any women-centric welfare initiative depends on ensuring that eligible beneficiaries are aware of the scheme and can access its benefits without unnecessary difficulty.
*Recognising the contribution of women at the grassroot*
Kohli also acknowledged the contribution of around 2,000 women volunteers and grassroots workers who participated in efforts to spread information about the scheme among women and assisted eligible beneficiaries with the application process.
He also appreciated the contribution of Sakhis and Anganwadi workers, who remain closely connected with families at the grassroots level and play an important role in reaching women and families and facilitating access to welfare initiatives concerning women and children.
“These women did much more than assist with forms. They reached out to other women, listened to their concerns and helped them understand the support available to them. Sometimes a small effort by one person can make a significant difference to an entire family,” Kohli said.

Speaking about women’s empowerment, Kohli said that strengthening women economically and socially is essential for the progress of families and society.
“When a woman becomes stronger, the entire family becomes stronger. When a mother gets support, it creates greater confidence and opportunities for her children. When a daughter gets an opportunity, it strengthens the future of the next generation. That is why every effort made for women is ultimately an investment in the future of society,” he said.
Kohli said his focus would remain on strengthening women’s participation in Jalandhar Central and ensuring that eligible women are able to access government welfare initiatives.
*A personal message to thousands of sisters*
Addressing the women present at the programme, Kohli delivered a personal message and said that he viewed the Rakhi tied on his wrist as a symbol of trust and responsibility.
“Today, I do not want to speak to you as a politician or as someone holding a position. I want to speak to you as your brother. The Rakhi you have tied on my wrist carries your trust, affection and blessings. I may not be able to solve every problem overnight, but I can promise that I will always try to listen to your concerns, understand your difficulties and stand with you wherever I can,” Kohli said.
He said that the bond represented by Raksha Bandhan should extend beyond a single ritual.
“The ritual may last for a day, but the trust behind it lasts much longer. Every Rakhi tied on my wrist today will remind me that a sister has placed her trust in me. I will carry that trust as a responsibility,” he said.
Kohli added that he wanted every woman in Jalandhar Central to feel that her voice matters and that she does not have to face her difficulties alone.
“Your happiness is my happiness, and your difficulties are a responsibility I will always try to understand. I want every sister to know that her voice matters, her dignity matters and her aspirations matter,” he said.
Concluding the programme, Kohli thanked all the sisters, women volunteers, Sakhis, Anganwadi workers, grassroots workers and other women who participated in the celebration and extended their blessings.
“The love and blessings I have received from thousands of sisters today are among the most meaningful moments for me. You have given me the relationship of a brother, and I will always try to honour that relationship with sincerity, sensitivity and responsibility. Your trust is my greatest strength,” Kohli said.
