Ludhiana: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) event organised in Ludhiana on Independence Day has sparked controversy after a video showing a dance performance on stage went viral on social media.
According to the report, three young women were performing during the cultural programme when one of them allegedly performed an inappropriate dance. A man in the audience was also seen repeatedly blowing kisses towards the performer, while she appeared to smile from the stage.
The incident reportedly continued for around five minutes, while BJP leaders seated on the stage watched the performance. No leader initially intervened, according to the report.
Organiser later asks for patriotic songs
The situation eventually changed when BJP district vice-president Dr Nirmal Naiyyar, who was seated on the stage, asked the organisers to play patriotic songs.
The programme was organised by the BJP in Ludhiana South constituency as part of Independence Day celebrations. The event was attended by BJP’s newly appointed state general secretary Rajnish Dhiman and district president Sunil Modgil, although the reported dance performance took place before their arrival.
Bhojpuri songs performed during cultural programme
The BJP had organised Independence Day programmes at the mandal and assembly constituency levels, with cultural and patriotic performances planned as part of the celebrations.
At the Ludhiana South event, three young women performed dances to Bhojpuri songs. According to the report, one performer suddenly began dancing in a manner that was considered inappropriate, while the other two performers slowed down their movements.
The stage host reportedly continued encouraging the performers during the programme. The video has since circulated widely on social media, prompting criticism of the organisers and the conduct of the event.
