Former West Bengal deputy speaker Ashish Banerjee found dead at TMC office

Birbhum: Former West Bengal Assembly Deputy Speaker and senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Ashish Banerjee was found dead at the party’s office in Rampurhat, Birbhum district, on Sunday morning.

According to police sources, Banerjee’s body was found hanging inside the TMC office, located adjacent to his residence.

Suspected suicide note recovered

Police have reportedly recovered a suspected suicide note from the scene. Officials have not yet disclosed its contents, but the note is being treated as an important piece of evidence as part of the investigation.

Senior police officers and administrative officials reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. The body was taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examination.

Banerjee was a former TMC MLA and had also served as the Deputy Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death from all angles. Further action is expected based on the findings of the investigation and the contents of the recovered note.

The incident has caused shock and grief in the area, while TMC workers and supporters have expressed deep distress over the leader’s death.
