Bumrah returns to India’s Test squad for New Zealand tour; Kumar Kushagra earns maiden ODI call-up

New Delhi: India have announced their Test and ODI squads for the upcoming tour of New Zealand, with fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah returning to the Test side after nearly a year. Rishabh Pant and pacer Akash Deep Singh have also been included in the Test squad.

Bumrah last played a Test against South Africa in November last year. He will not feature in India’s ODI or T20 squads for the tour. Akash Deep, meanwhile, returns to the Test side after last playing against England at The Oval in July 2025.

Shubman Gill will continue as India’s Test captain. For the ODI series, Gill will lead the side in the first three matches, while Shreyas Iyer will captain the team in the final two. Gill and vice-captain KL Rahul will be rested for those last two games.

India’s tour runs from October 22 to December 1 and includes five T20 internationals, five ODIs and two Tests.

Jadeja misses out on ODIs, Axar returns

Ravindra Jadeja has been selected for the Test squad but has not been included in the ODI team. Axar Patel returns for all five ODIs after missing the previous West Indies ODI series while competing at the Asian Games.

For the final two ODIs, India have added Tilak Varma and wicketkeeper-batter Kumar Kushagra to a 16-member squad. Kushagra has received his maiden call-up to India’s ODI squad.

Prasidh Krishna and Anshul Kamboj will not be part of the squad for the last two matches, while Aaqib Nabi has been included. Krishna’s selection for the first three ODIs will depend on his fitness.
