New Delhi: The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has revised the prices of 543 brands of cancer medicines, with some witnessing cuts of more than 90%, offering potential relief to patients. The revised maximum retail prices (MRPs) will come into effect from November 9.
The price revision follows the NPPA’s October 17 decision to rationalise trade margins on 137 non-scheduled anti-cancer medicines. The move aims to curb excessive mark-ups across the supply chain and make cancer treatment more affordable.
Among the medicines seeing significant price reductions is Anarzol, manufactured by RPG Life Sciences and used in breast cancer treatment. The price of a pack of 10 tablets has been reduced from ₹695.76 to ₹73.
The price of Dr Reddy’s Laboratories’ Azacitine injection has been cut from ₹6,337 to ₹1,495.04. Abbott Healthcare’s Bevacizumab injection, in a 4 ml vial, will now cost ₹5,930.13, down from ₹21,767.70.
The price of RPG Life Sciences’ Debrumab injection, supplied in a 1 ml pre-filled syringe, has also been reduced from ₹22,031.25 to ₹5,941.
The revised prices are expected to lower out-of-pocket expenses for patients requiring these medicines.
