New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday night announced that the Centre will introduce a new anti-paper leak Bill during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament to strengthen action against examination fraud.
In a video message issued shortly before midnight, the Prime Minister said the proposed legislation would be taken up by the Union Cabinet at its meeting on Friday before being introduced in Parliament next week.
Modi said the draft Bill had already been prepared and includes provisions for stricter punishment for those involved in examination paper leaks, along with the establishment of fast-track courts to ensure speedy trials.
“After incorporating the suggestions of Cabinet ministers at Friday’s meeting, the draft Bill will be finalised. We will then make every effort to have it passed in Parliament next week,” the Prime Minister said.
Describing paper leaks as a serious issue, Modi said such incidents cause immense hardship to lakhs of students and their families.
“Paper leaks are not an ordinary issue. They create enormous distress for students and parents. Over the past two-and-a-half months, the government has taken several steps to tackle the problem. Those responsible have been identified, arrested and sent to jail,” he said.
The Prime Minister added that following the alleged NEET-UG paper leak, the government’s immediate priority had been to ensure that students’ academic year was not adversely affected while strengthening safeguards to prevent similar incidents in the future.
