New Delhi: The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) on Saturday announced the end of its 36-day protest at Jantar Mantar, saying the Centre had accepted all three of its key demands following multiple rounds of negotiations.
The announcement was made jointly by Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Jitendra Singh, along with CJP spokespersons Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka.
Addressing protesters, Das urged all demonstrators gathered at Jantar Mantar to return to their homes, stating that the movement had achieved its objectives.
Ranka said the organisation held three rounds of talks with the government over the past few days and claimed that all three of CJP’s principal demands had been accepted.
Earlier in the day, news of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation sparked celebrations at the protest site. Students raised slogans of “Chhatra Ekta Zindabad”, sang the national anthem, and observed a two-minute silence in memory of students who were claimed to have lost their lives following the alleged NEET paper leak controversy.
The protest, which began over allegations of irregularities in the NEET examination, had evolved into a nationwide student movement demanding accountability, reforms in the examination system and action against those responsible for the alleged paper leak.
