Fagguwala: The Congress on Wednesday sounded the poll bugle for the 2027 Punjab assembly elections, holding a large-scale ‘Insaf rally’ at Fagguwala village along the Bathinda-Zirakpur national highway. The rally was organised under the arrangements of former minister Vijay Inder Singla.
Addressing the gathering at a venue spread across 12 acres, Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government and the BJP-led Centre were working in collusion, allowing the drug menace to spread across the state.
Gandhi said Punjab’s youth were increasingly being affected by drugs, robbery and gangsterism, and accused the state government of failing to tackle these social challenges.
During his speech, Gandhi invited Balkaur Singh, father of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, who was seated on the stage, to join him.
Calling Moosewala a remarkable singer and a young man with the potential to achieve great things, Gandhi alleged that failures of the Punjab and central governments had contributed to the loss of promising young lives.
He urged Congress leaders and workers to remain united and prepare to contest the 2027 Punjab assembly elections.
