New Delhi: The Congress leadership on Wednesday held a key meeting in Delhi to resolve the ongoing factionalism in the Punjab unit ahead of the Assembly elections.
The meeting, convened by Punjab Congress in-charge Bhupesh Baghel, is being held at the party headquarters. It was originally scheduled for Tuesday but was postponed due to the opposition protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence.
Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Rana Gurjeet Singh, Raj Kumar Verka, Amar Singh and several other senior leaders attended the meeting.
The meeting marks the first time Raja Warring and Charanjit Singh Channi have shared the same platform since differences within the state unit became public.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other members of the party’s top leadership were also present at the party headquarters. Senior Congress leaders are expected to participate in the discussions.
Members of the Election Campaign Committee, Core Committee, Election Management Committee, Manifesto Committee, and the party’s working presidents have been invited to the meeting as the Congress begins preparations for the Punjab Assembly elections.
Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal was seen seated alongside Bhupesh Baghel and Partap Singh Bajwa. Charanjit Singh Channi was seated next to Raja Warring despite reports of differences between the two leaders, a seating arrangement that drew attention during the meeting.
