New Delhi: Several Congress leaders, including Punjab MPs Charanjit Singh Channi and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, were detained by Delhi Police on Tuesday during a protest near the Prime Minister’s residence over the alleged NEET paper leak and demands for the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The protest was organised by the Congress, with party leaders marching towards the Prime Minister’s residence after gathering at the residence of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. Police intercepted the march before it reached its destination and detained several participants.
During the protest, Channi was escorted to a police vehicle while raising slogans against the Central government. Congress leaders also chanted slogans demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister and the Union Education Minister over the controversy.
The march was organised with little prior public announcement, with the media being informed only after the leaders had advanced close to the protest site.
Several Punjab Congress leaders joined the demonstration, including Punjab Congress president and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Patiala MP Dharamvir Gandhi, Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla, and Fatehgarh Sahib MP Dr Amar Singh.
The protest was held in support of the ongoing movement seeking accountability over the alleged NEET paper leak and wider reforms in the education system.
