Punjab Cabinet approves Monsoon Session from August 3 to 10

Chandigarh: The Punjab Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has approved the convening of the Monsoon Session of the Punjab Legislative Assembly from August 3 to August 10.

The state government is expected to consider amendments to the Jagat Jyoti Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Amendment Act, 2026 during the session.

Speaking after the Cabinet meeting, Mann said the government was holding consultations with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) regarding the proposed amendments. He added that the government would also seek the opinion of the Advocate General on the suggestions made by the Akal Takht before finalising any changes to the legislation.

The Chief Minister said amendments to the Act would be made only after completing the legal consultation process.

On June 29, the Akal Takht had summoned several Punjab Cabinet ministers and MLAs and raised objections to certain provisions of the Jagat Jyoti Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Amendment Act, 2026. The Sikh temporal body had given the Punjab government one month to review the legislation and address its concerns.

The state government is now considering revisions to the Act in line with the recommendations received from the Akal Takht.
