Rahul Gandhi acquitted in defamation case linked to Amit Shah

Sultanpur: A special MP-MLA court in Sultanpur on Monday acquitted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a defamation case linked to remarks about Union home minister Amit Shah. BJP leader Vijay Mishra had filed the complaint against Gandhi in August 2018.

The case concerned remarks Gandhi allegedly made at a press conference in Bengaluru on May 8, 2018. He had reportedly said, “The party that talks about honesty has a person accused of murder as its president.”

Following the verdict, Congress workers gathered outside the court, danced to drumbeats, burst firecrackers and raised slogans in support of Gandhi.

Earlier on Monday, five vehicles in Gandhi’s convoy, including an ambulance, collided on the Purvanchal Expressway while he was travelling to Sultanpur for the court hearing. Gandhi was safe, according to police.
