Patiala: Amid the ongoing leadership tussle in the Punjab Congress, AICC general secretary and Punjab in-charge Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday clarified that the party high command will decide its chief ministerial face and the composition of the Council of Ministers only after the Punjab Assembly elections.
Addressing the ‘Har Booth Congress Mazboot’ programme in Patiala, Baghel stressed the need for unity within the party and said the responsibility of every leader and worker is to ensure the Congress returns to power in Punjab. He also made it clear that the party will not announce a chief ministerial candidate before the elections.
During the programme, Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring was interrupted by sloganeering from a section of workers supporting former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi. The slogans were raised while Warring was addressing party workers.
Referring to the differences between supporters of Warring and Channi, Baghel said disagreements are natural in any political party, but workers must remain united and work together for the party’s success in the upcoming Assembly elections.
