New Delhi: Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Harmeet Singh Kalka has welcomed Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s recommendation to grant 10-day parole to Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara, saying such matters should be considered on humanitarian grounds and given priority.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Kalka said Mann had written to Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, urging him to grant Hawara parole so that he could attend to his ailing mother.
Kalka said the Sikh community appreciates and thanks the chief minister for taking up the matter with the Governor.
He further said that the Supreme Court and Punjab and Haryana High Court had earlier directed the concerned courts to take timely decisions on Hawara’s parole plea, particularly in view of his desire to care for his ailing mother.
Kalka said allowing Hawara to look after his mother was not only a matter of humanity but also, according to him, a constitutional right that should be given due consideration.
